We who are fortunate enough to live in Northern California enjoy much more than the best wines in the world; we also have access to world-renowned Napa Valley performing arts.
Take the Napa Valley Performing Arts Center at Lincoln Theater, for example. This comprehensive, multi-disciplinary performing arts center built on community-based artistic and philanthropic relationships, offers residents and visitors impactful performing arts education programs, and a full gamut of first-class local, national and international entertainment including our own Symphony Napa Valley, a vibrant professional orchestra committed to making classical music relevant to today’s audiences.
The Napa Valley is home to art, music, and architecture on both intimate and grand scales. Revolving art exhibitions at wineries, permanent and special museum exhibitions, art galleries, open studios, historic and contemporary architecture, and art festivals all provide an arts experience that is legendary. For a self-curated online tour of the Napa Valley’s most compelling collections and celebrated venues, check out the Napa Valley Collection.
One of my very favorite local events is the three-day BottleRock Napa Valley extravaganza, taking place May 29-31. Featuring a roster of top chefs, vintners, master sommeliers and other surprises on Williams-Sonoma Stage, and including a diversity of major talent such as Robert Plant, No Doubt and Snoop Dogg. Then there’s the Napa Music Festival, returning to the Napa Valley for a second year, from June 20 to July 13. This event includes an internationally renowned line-up of opera singers, conductors, directors, vocal coaches, and composers. It will include 40 to 50 teen, college-age and young professional opera and musical theater singers from the U.S. and overseas in this unique teaching festival to expand their musical training through opera and cabaret vocal programs, as well as a composers workshop offering opportunities to unveil world premieres of new works.
Singers of all ages are welcome to participate in the cabaret conservatory and vocal technique intensive programs, and celebrated local composer Kurt Erickson will lead a young composers workshop.
